The Moon Church
A cathedral whose tower tracks the moon
Biserica cu Lună
The Orthodox Cathedral of the Dormition, built 1784–1790 on Piața Unirii, is famous across Europe for a rare astronomical device: a one-metre sphere, half gold and half black, that turns inside the tower to show the current phase of the moon. The mechanism was installed in 1793 and still works today.
